{"id":1390,"date":"2019-08-09T19:34:05","date_gmt":"2019-08-10T00:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nabjmonitor.com\/2022\/?p=1390"},"modified":"2021-08-18T09:52:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T14:52:38","slug":"30-years-of-nabj-student-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nabjmonitor.com\/2022\/30-years-of-nabj-student-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"30 Years of NABJ Student Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>A Fertile Training Ground for the Future of NABJ&nbsp;<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By Melody Greene<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NABJ Monitor<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year marks the 30-year anniversary of the NABJ Student Projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1989 member Sheila Brooks and then-student representative Roland Martin convinced the national board to approve the first student project at the 1990 Los Angeles convention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the NABJ Student Projects, one of the most visible and important features of our annual convention, I am especially proud to be recognized as the founder and for my leadership in increasing access and opportunities for people of color in journalism,\u201d Brooks said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the course of the week, student reporters are given assignments to report on a number of highlights from the convention, its host city, the business of NABJ and journalism as a whole.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student reporters hit the ground running with a boot camp focused on best practices in journalism, including the use of Google tools.
