Tory Parrish also defeated challenger Christopher Nelson for the&nbsp; director position in Region 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tucker, an investigative reporter for WBBM-TV in Chicago will succeed Sarah Glover, who has served for two terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud to be leaving NABJ stronger and more fortified than it\u2019s ever been before and I look forward to working with the next administration and supporting their future work,\u201d Glover said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tucker teared up upon hearing the news of her win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m thrilled,\u201d she gushed. \u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable. I\u2019m emotional because in 1979, when I was 23 years old and I was making very little money living in Denver, all I wanted was to connect with black people and I came to NABJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI could not afford the room so I didn\u2019t get one,\u201d Tucker continued. \u201cI just flew across the country. I registered. I paid for the ticket but I could not afford a hotel room. And I didn\u2019t care that I couldn\u2019t afford the hotel. I just wanted to be at NABJ. I got there and it was only because some kind woman let me share a room with her that I was able to attend the conference. I\u2019ve come to every conference since then.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><div style=\"width: 100%;\"><div style=\"position: relative; padding-bottom: 55.00%; padding-top: 0; height: 0;\"><iframe frameborder=\"0\" width=\"2000px\" height=\"1100px\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/view.genial.ly\/5d4dfa6d851dea0fb2c26bf2\" type=\"text\/html\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" scrolling=\"yes\" allownetworking=\"all\"><\/iframe> <\/div> <\/div><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon announcement of the results, Lee, who was unable to speak, dropped his head down in disappointment while being consoled by his father, Greg Lee Sr. Visibly saddened, he packed up his bags and laptop and grabbed his two white cardboard ticket boxes, heading to NABJ\u2019s South Beach Sports Task Force Scholarship Party<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Walker heard the news of his defeat, he stood in silence for a few moments and later shared an emotional Champagne toast with a number of his supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout her campaign, Tucker said that she didn\u2019t support the amendment to consolidate the three vice president positions to one. However, she said she was not opposed to eliminating the VP digital role. The merging process still remains unclear.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tucker has been active in both the national and local chapter organizations with leadership positions in Denver, Pittsburgh and her local Chicago chapter. For me it\u2019s my therapy. It\u2019s my extended family.
